For robot transfer axes operating in cleanroom environments, long-stroke transport and stopping at multiple positions are required.
As a result, the use of rack-and-pinion systems has been considered; however, particle generation caused by wear of the rack and pinion teeth has become a major challenge.
In addition, impact during acceleration and deceleration, durability, and maintenance frequency have not met the required performance specifications.

Solution/Countermeasure

Consider using a TCG runner to solve the problem of particle generation in the rack and pinion.
In addition, the TCG Runner enables backlash-free and smooth operation, making it ideal for transporting delicate workpieces.
Its high maintainability and long service life are well suited to cleanroom environments.

The TCG runner has a different principle of contact and engagement than the conventional rack and pinion mechanism. 
Rolling contact is achieved through the engagement between a rack with trochoidal tooth profiles and a roller pinion,
which differs fundamentally from the contact principle of conventional rack-and-pinion mechanisms.
This mechanism enables non-backlash operation, high-precision positioning, and excellent maintainability with low wear and low particle generation.

Effects/Benefits

A low-profile and compact design required for next-generation AGVs was successfully achieved.
By reducing the height and overall size of the AGV, it became possible to deploy the system in confined factory spaces where manual transport had previously been necessary, as well as in facilities with strict height restrictions on loads. This contributed to enhanced product competitiveness.
