Simplifying Maintenance Around Wiring and Hoses with a Segmented TCG Ring

A large machining system utilized a conventional 360-degree ring gear. However, electrical wiring and pneumatic hoses were routed through the hollow center of the system, requiring the machine to be partially disassembled and the entire ring gear to be removed whenever maintenance was performed.
As a result, maintenance work was labor-intensive and time-consuming, demanding significant manpower and extended equipment downtime.

Solution/Countermeasure

The TCG Segmented Ring was evaluated as a replacement for the conventional ring gear.

The segmented ring design was expected to improve maintenance efficiency by allowing only the required sections of the ring to be removed and reinstalled, eliminating the need to handle the entire ring assembly during maintenance operations.

In addition, the low-wear and long-service-life characteristics of the TCG Ring and Roller Pinion were expected to reduce component replacement frequency, contributing to lower maintenance requirements and reduced lifecycle costs.

Effects/Benefits

By adopting the TCG Segmented ring, maintenance work on electrical wiring and pneumatic hoses could be performed by removing only the required ring segments, significantly reducing maintenance time.
Furthermore, when reinstalling a removed segment, the remaining segments serve as reference points, allowing accurate and straightforward reassembly using connection jig. This eliminated much of the adjustment work previously required and significantly reduced maintenance labor requirements.

In addition, replacing a large one-piece ring gear with a segmented ring design reduced the weight of each individual segment to a level that could be handled by a single operator. As a result, the number of personnel required for maintenance tasks was reduced, improving overall maintenance efficiency.

The low-wear, long-life characteristics of the TCG Ring and Roller Pinion significantly reduced component replacement frequency, contributing to significant reductions in maintenance and lifecycle costs..

1.The split-ring design allows only the required sections to be removed and reinstalled during maintenance.
2.Simplified maintenance procedures help reduce manpower requirements.
3.Low-wear and long-life performance minimizes replacement frequency and lowers maintenance costs.
